You may have heard from your child, or read in their agenda book, that we are starting a diorama project over The Indian in the Cupboard. For this project, students will create a three dimensional scene from one of the chapters in the book. Students do not need to buy a lot of supplies because I grade on creativity, not on the price tag. Some items that students may want to use are action figures, legos, sticks, dirt, grass, and so on. Remember, the more creative the better. Try to use authentic items (like sticks to represent firewood).
To start, turn a shoebox (or similar sized box) on its side. Decorated the background of the box, and then set up the scene within the box. Make sure to secure all items; glue works best. The characters need to show action if possible; for example if Omri is picking up Little Bear he should be leaning over and reaching out to the other figure. A one paragraph description should be secured to the top of the box. For this description, they may use the chapter summaries done in class as a starter and it needs to be typed. One final note: please make sure all of the items and characters are three dimensional and not flat.
DUE: Tuesday, November 22
If you have any other questions, please email or send a note.
Thanks,
Mr. Spahr
